Geocache Description:


This is is 1 of 3 caches placed around the University of Southampton Highfield campus.
The others UCACHE #2 - University of Southampton & UCACHE #2a - University of Southampton Mountbatten



At 168 Burgess Road on the corner to Broadlands Road once stood The Crown & Sceptre hotel, it's said that there had been a Scrase's beer house located here since the 1870's. Most people remember the Tudor style building which stood here since 1930 but lack of profitability forced the pub to close sometime around 2009.


The University of Southampton acquired the property and applied for planning permission to demolish the pub to make way for additional parking spaces and to landscape the remaining area close to the Health Profs & Rehab Sciences building. The Crown & Sceptre was demolished in the summer of 2011 and all that remains now is the buildings stone plaque.
