On Wisconsin Traditional Cache

slbens: I hate to do it because I put a lot of time into these caches but there is extensive logging going on clear cutting some of the areas and then who knows. Time to let them go!

Geocache Description:

This cache series is a tribute to the Wisconsin Badger Football team heading to their seventh Rose Bowl Game on January 2, 2012.

"On, Wisconsin"
On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin
Plunge right through that line,
Run the ball clear down the field, boys
Touchdown sure this time
On Wisconsin, On Wisconsin
Fight on for her fame,
Fight, Fellows, Fight, Fight, Fight
We'll win this game!

"On, Wisconsin!" is the fight song of the Wisconsin Badgers at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. With modified lyrics, it is also the official state song of Wisconsin.

The tune was composed in 1909 by William T. Purdy, with the intention of entering it into a competition for a new fight song at the University of Minnesota.
Carl Beck, a former University of Wisconsin–Madison student, convinced him to withdraw it from the contest at the last minute and allow his alma mater to use it instead. Beck then wrote the original, football-oriented lyrics, changing the words "Minnesota, Minnesota" to "On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!"

"On, Wisconsin!" was regarded by John Philip Sousa as "the finest of college marching songs". It has become one of the most popular fight songs in the country, with some 2,500 schools using some variation of it as their school song. Although there are persistent rumors that the rights to the song are owned by Paul McCartney or Michael Jackson, which has even been reported by the Christian Science Monitor, this applies solely to the international rights; the song is actually in the public domain in the United States.

Park in the designated parking lot and enjoy the hike or the ski along the trails. Most caches are along the trails but this one requires a little off trail walk. Great view of the creek running through the forest from here.

These caches are located on the Oak Ridge Trail part of the Juneau County Trails/Forest land with permission of Brian Lloyd of the Juneau County Parks and Forests Department. You are looking for a well camoflauged nano container with a log only.

Go Badgers!

Parking is available at the trailhead N44 00.304 W090 13.177
