We placed this cache to celebrate the opening of this new stretch of trail a long the river.
Everyone we meet on the trail talks about being SO happy and SO excited that the trail is finally open. It is a really good thing for the citizens of American Canyon!
Depending on where you start, this is an easy walk. The cache is about 1/2 mile from the entrance on Green Valley Road. You can drive in and park near the restroom (no water), but that will make your walk a little longer by about 1/4 mile. If you and/or your small children want a little shorter walk, there's a couple of spots you can pull over and park outside the gate. Parking and use is free. The trail is bike and stroller friendly. The trail is wheelchair accessible, but the cache itself isn't accessible by w/c so I didn't choose that attribute.
Be prepared for great bird viewing at the mudflats, and if you or a young one you know is an Airplane lover, this is also a great spot to watch airplanes taking off and coming in for landing at the Napa airport. Binoculars are a bonus!
There is a bench not much further past the cache location if you want a spot to hang out for awhile. It's so pretty you might even enjoy a picnic. That also makes this location ideal for taking children.
I haven't seen the trail in storm conditions - possibly may not be accessable then, in fact the trail could be closed during severe storms.
Cache is a rubbermaid container with various small swag, logbook and pencil.
Be sure to leave it well covered when you're done.
