La Grand'Place
La Grand'Place est, avec plus d'un hectare, la plus grande des
deux places d'Arras.
Elle fut aménagée sur les anciens vergers de l'abbaye
Saint-Vaast. (voir cache GC26WK5)
Transformée au XIe pour accueillir les marchés, elle a contribué à
la prospérité de la ville.
Les places arrageoises doivent leur splendeur a l'unité
architecturale des 155 maisons de style baroque flamand construites
à partir du XVIIe siècle selon des recommandations préconisant
l'usage de la pierre.
La plus ancienne maison, le n°49 au Nord de la place, date du
XVe siècle.
Au fil des siècles, la Grand'Place d'Arras a
été le témoin de nombreux événements
La Grand'Place est aujourd'hui le lieu de rendez-vous d'Arras,
visité par les touristes du monde entier.

has contributed to the prosperity of the city.

constructed from the seventeenth century according
to the recommendations for theuse of stone.

the place, date from the
fifteenth century.
