If you love Earth Caches as much as I do, you'll appreciate this cache which pays tribute to the awesome power of nature and our Earth's energy, and sheds some light on one of its finest features: Granite.

At GZ you will find an object representing man's attempt to hold together the immense forces of energy within the earth; forces which create all that we have, and can destroy all, as well.

Granite is an igneous rock formed from magma at great depths and pressures under the continents. Granite consists of orthoclase and plagioclase feldspars, quartz, hornblende and biotite, muscovite and minor accessory minerals such as magnetite, garnet, zircon, and apatite. Granite is made of large mineral grains (hence the name!) that fit tightly together. All igneous rocks are classified according to texture and composition as illustrated in this chart:
