Yahata station was founded at a place in the direction of Edamitsu station, east side, 1km apart from the current place, in the year after 1901 (Meiji 34) when the second national steel company was founded in then Yahata village, and was transferred to the current place in 1955 and then reconstructed in 2007. The area around Yahata station has been developed as a base of culture from the old Yahata city so that there are a municipal hospital, a municipal library, a university, etc at the southern area.
