Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Burnie Park. Along the way it has been bush, home, farm, market garden, guest house, zoo, park, tennis courts, war memorial, training ground, natural habitat and playground.

Burnie’s early Chinese community farmed a market garden on the western side of what is now the park from the 1880’s until the 1940’s, and the rest of the land was a farm and a guesthouse owned by the Oldaker family from 1876 to 1927.

In 1927 the Emu Bay Council purchased the land that is now the Burnie Park and in the 1930’s and 1940’s built bird aviaries, fish ponds and a fire brigade competition track.

Today the park is used mainly for relaxation and play. There are BBQ facilities, walking tracks and several playgrounds. The park contains the Burnie Cenotaph and war memorials and there is a sound shell where Carols by Candlelight and other concerts are held. And the fire brigade competition track is still used for training and competitions.

The cache is a micro and contains a logbook and pen, not really room for swaps. This park is used by lots of people at all hours of the day so please be very careful. The difficulty rating relates to the muggle factor.

Take the time to relax in the park, go for a walk and maybe find the other caches that live here.
