Welcome to Washington Chapel Cemetery. This is an active cemetery off the beaten track. This cemetery is maintained by Washington Township.
Michael Fought sold ½ acre of land to the School Directors of District #3 for the purpose of establishing a public burying ground in 1835. Then in 1877 Eli Fought platted a cemetery adjoining the old cemetery on the south end and sold lots. He enlarged it in 1898. In 1916, the Fought family sold the cemetery for $1.00 to the Washington Chapel Cemetery Association who operated and maintained it until 1955 when it was turned over to Washington Township.
This cemetery has been used since the 1830’s. Numerous Fought relatives are buried here. The cemetery is named after the former Methodist Episcopal Church which was located north of the cemetery along Co. Rd. 59 until it was destroyed, apparently by vandals, several years ago.
The oldest stone that can be easily read is that of James Miller who died in 1842.
You are looking for a camo'd pill bottle. Please rehide exactly as found to preserve the cache and pick up any litter you might find while there.
