Geocache Description:

A quiet walk through a hidden forest to an old reservoir which is reputedly the 'weir' in the Killing Heidi song of the same name. This cache was hidden on New Year's Day 2012.

Railway Reservoir used to be the town water supply for Violet Town and as a kid growing up in the area, I used to ride my bike the few miles down there for the redfin fishing. It was known as "the old town water supply" even in those days.

A newer reservoir on the Honeysuckle Creek supplied the town's water for many years, but these days, both are officially decommissioned.

These days, water is supplied via pipelines from distant sources, but recent works keep Railway Reservoir in working order, although I don't know if there are still fish there.

While (unsuccessfully) looking for some more history, I stumbled across an interview between Molly Meldrum and Ella Hooper from Killing Heidi, in which she says that this place is the inspiration for their song "Weir" and that she, like I, spent a lot of time here as a kid, although her times are a lot more recent than mine !

Today, it is a quiet place although it does look like it's frequently visited, so maybe there are still fish here.

If you have a high-clearance 4WD, you could ford the creek and drive quite close to the cache, but otherwise, park in the carpark and walk up through a suprising little forest and enjoy the solitude.

At times, the creek may be difficult to cross and in summer, reptilian wildlife may be present, particularly near the water.

Cache is a 2 litre sistema with a few swaps and some scratchies for the FTF.

Please make sure the camo is back in place as the container itself is not camouflaged.

The terrain difficulty reflects the fact you have to cross a creek, which may be in flood. If the creek is normal, terrain would be 1.5 - 2
