Besides the legendary exploration stories of Lewis and Clark and the Apollo program, I would have to say that the story of Shackleton is my favorite story ever.
Shackleton was a polar explorer who led a huge group (around 30) of men on an ambitious mission to the South Pole in 1914. Events took a terrible turn, though, and anyone but Shackleton would have given up hope for their safe return to civilization. But not Shackleton! His story is absolutely incredible, amazing, and beyond words. And I should probably stop this introduction and let you get on with your research! Then you can discover his story for yourself.
