Although this cache is only a short hike in, the terrain at the
hide spot is a challenge.
From the end of Ord Road, drive past the Agricultural Research
Station and continue along the road past the end of the gravel
pit.
Skirt the edge of the pit to enter the lower end of the rocky
gorge. When placed the floor was littered with tumbleweed, but the
route up the gully is straight-forward. Wild blue clematis grows in
this spot, fed by run-off that lingers in the gorge. This spot is
not far (<750m) from the new Rattlesnake Bluffs Grasslands
Heritage area, habitat preserved for Pacific rattlesnakes and Great
Basin gophersnakes. This gully would be a prime location for
spotting snakes in the spring and summer. To find this cache, you
will have to hike through the small gorge. The container is
camouflaged; please rehide and replace carefully.
