Villány is one of Hungary’s top wine regions, known for its red and rosé wines. Hungary’s most southern wine region has long and hot summers with abundant sunshine, followed by a mild winter. Thanks to this sub-Mediterranean climate wines from Villány are full-bodied and spicy and of the highest quality. The majority of Hungary’s award-winning wines are produced in the Villány region.
The Villány region is popular with wine tourism. Most wine cellars are located on a wine route in close proximity to each other. They are open for wine tasting and some wineries, like Bock and Gere, offer accommodation. Nearby sights include the city of Pécs, the thermal baths in Harkány, the medieval castle in Siklós and the church in Máriagyüd, a popular place of pilgrimage.
The red wines for which the Villány and the Villánykövesd vineyards are famous the Portugieser, Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot. As for the white wines you should go to Siklós for the Italian Riesling, Hárslevelü and Chardonnay. In Villány, the village after which the wine region is named, you will find a Wine Museum, situated amongst the historic wine cellars.
The top wineries in the region are Bock (Winemaker of the Year 1997), Csányi, Gere (Winemaker of the Year 1994), Polgár (Winemaker of the Year 1996), Tiffán (Winemaker of the Year 1991), Vylyan (Winery of the Year 2008).

Villány hazánk egyik vezetô borvidéke, vörös és rozé borairól ismert. Az ország legdélibb borvidékén hosszú és forró a nyár, bôséges a napsütés, amit általában enyhe tél követ. Ennek a szubmediterrán éghajlatnak köszönhetôen a villányi borok testesek, fûszeresek és a legmagasabb minôségûek. A magyar díjnyertes borok többsége a villányi térségbôl származik.
A villányi borvidéken népszerû a borturizmus. A legtöbb borospince egy borút mentén található egymás szomszédságában. Nyitva állnak a borkóstolók számára és néhány borászat, mint a Bock és a Gere, szállást is kínál. A közeli látnivalók közé tartoznak Pécs városa, a harkányi termálfürdô, Siklós középkori vára és a máriagyüdi kegytemplom, mely népszerû zarándokhely.
A híres villányi és a villánykövesdi vörös borok a Portugieser, a Kékfrankos, a Cabernet Franc, a Cabernet Sauvignon és a Merlot. A híres siklósi fehér borok az Olasz rizling, a Hárslevelû és a Chardonnay. Villányban, amirôl a borvidék a nevét kapta, egy bormúzeum is található a történelmi pincék között megbújva.
A régió vezetô borászatai Bock (Év borásza 1997), Csányi, Gere (Év borásza 1994), Polgár (Év borásza 1996), Tiffán (Év borásza 1991), Vylyan (Év pincészete 2008).
