Paddy Hill Hide Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Geocache Description:

This is not one of my usual creative hides, although I did cammo the container all by myself. But hey... there wasn't a cache here, and part of the point is to go somewhere and learn something, right?

This is the highest peak in Greece. The abandoned church on this corner dates back to 1829 & was known as "The Church in the Woods". It's rumored that Irish Catholic missionaries built it amidst an Iroquois village. It's also rumored to be haunted, although at the time it was surrounded by swamps, and the swamp gases made eerie lights at night. (That & there were some folks on Latta who liked to imbibe quite a bit).

The old brick church served the parish for over a century. When the current church opened in the 1960's the older building was leased to the town & served as the library for many years. It now stands abandoned.

The adjacent cemetery dates to the 1820's. There are no gates or posted hours but please be respectful. The cache is accessible from the path between the cemetery & the old church. There is no need to step on graves. Cache contains trade items and some prizes for the 1st & 2nd to find if they want them. Stealth will be needed due to traffic.

Congrats to Hale-Storm, k'wren & SilverFox on FTF on a cold night.
