On the Beach
In einem Gemeinschaftsprojekt zwischen dem Robert-Bosch-Gymnasium
in Langenau und der Universität Tübingen wurde 2002 die völlig
zugewucherte Ramminger Sandgrube von der Vegetation befreit und mit
einer Informationstafel versehen. Diese wurde am Tag der
Geowissenschaften, dem 29. April 2002 der Öffentlichkeit
vorgestellt.
Die Ramminger Sandgrube ist ein künstlicher Aufschluss, in dem
früher Bausand abgebaut wurde. Der lockere Sandstein entstand vor
ca. 25 bis 15 Mio Jahren im Miozän, als das Molassemeer
Oberschwaben und Teile der Schwäbischen Art überflutete. Dies
beweisen die hier gefundenen Meeresfossilien der oberen
Meeresmolasse.
Der Sandstein besteht aus bis zu 2 mm großen Sandkörnern, die wenig
gerundet sind und Schalenbruchstücken (Schill) von Muscheln und
Schnecken. Im Aufschluss wird der Sand von unten nach oben
grobkörniger und der Anteil des Schills nimmt zu.
An der Vor Ort aufgestellten Infotafel hast du die Möglichkeit dich
über die geologischen Vorgänge zu informieren.

- Welche Meereströmungen kamen hier vor und woran kann man das
heute erkennen?
- Wie werden die mm bis cm dicken, rostbraunen Streifen
genannt?
- Wie hoch schätzt du den freigelegten Teil der Sandgrube hinter
der Infotafel?

On the Beach
In 2002 the Robert Bosch secondary school in Langenau and the
university of Tübingen joined to clear the completely overgrown
Rammingen sand pit from all vegetation and to install an
information panel. On April 29, 2002, declared as a day of earth
science, it was opened to the public.
The Rammingen sand pit is an artificial outcrop where building sand
had been extracted in former times. The sandstone has been formed
25 to 15 million years ago in the age of Miocene when a shallow sea
covered Upper Swabia and parts of the Swabian Alb. This has been
proved by fossils of the Upper Marine Molasse found here.
The sand stone consists of grains with a size up to 2 mm that are
not much radiused and shell parts of clams and snails (Schill). In
the outcrop you can see that from top to bottom the grain size
grows and the percentage of Schill increases.
At the information panel you can learn about the geological
processes.
