Geocache Description:

This is a mystery-multi-cache with 6 stages. The listed coordinates are NOT for the final cache. You must solve the puzzle below to determine the coordinates for stage 1. This conservation area can be wet at times, so wear appropriate footwear. The interim stage are all close to the trail. The final requires a little dry bushwhacking. The best parking is west of stage one.

Consider the following list of sentences. Each sentence contains a hidden element. Together, the elements from each sentence will form an obvious pattern or connection to a common theme. To solve this puzzle, you need to:

  • Discover the hidden elements in the sentences below and deduce the theme that binds those elements together.
  • Determine the missing elements and decipher the coordinates below.

  1. Art and Paul sang another chorus of “That’ll be the day that I die.”
  2. Carly shot the snarling golden retriever with a BB gun as the man ran away.
  3. Holly Holy and Forever in Blue Jeans are two of Neil Diamond’s best songs.
  4. If Simon dies tomorrow, Joni will never get a dime of his estate.
  5. Isle Royale National Park was accessible by ferry from the Grand Portage Indian casino.
  6. It was Uncle Bob who loved to sit with me and watch the old I Spy reruns.
  7. Just close your eyes for only a few short minutes and rest.
  8. Mama would die to see Let It Be and Yesterday performed live on stage.
  9. On the way to Kill Bill in Soho, Joni asked to see the taxi driver’s licence.
  10. The Beatles love to fly over Russia from London to Tokyo with BOAC.
  11. “There is not enough love in the world,” Mrs. Dylan said to herself.
  12. Alas, there were no works by Dr. Seuss on the top-ten list of children’s books.
  13. Think twice before you live with a roommate who was an only child.
  14. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, presented a very powerful point of view.
  15. When Peter was living alone, lightening scared the daylights out of him.

Once you have solved the theme, put all the elements in chronological order. There will be eight missing elements from the official list (there are some imposters out there).
A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are assigned the ordered position of the missing elements. In other words, if the first missing element was chronologically 3rd in the list, and the 2nd missing element was chronologically 5th, then A=3, B=5 and so on.
A = the chronological order of the 1st missing element.
B = the chronological order of the 2nd missing element.
C = the chronological order of the 3rd missing element.
D = the chronological order of the 4th missing element.
E = the chronological order of the 5th missing element.
F = the chronological order of the 6th missing element.
G = the chronological order of the 7th missing element.
*H = 23, the chronological order of the 8th missing element.

[*Note: This puzzle was updated in November 2012 because the 8th missing element debuted and there are now 23 elements in this set.]

The coordinates for stage 1 are:

N 42
A + B + G
(F * F * A) + C + D + G
W 071
A + D + E
(A * E) + C
