Almanac for a great family event:

1. HIDE SOME CACHES

Starting immediately, get out in the winter sunshine and start hiding caches. This year’s theme is inspired by the Mayan Calendar and is “PARTY LIKE IT’S 2012” sorry Prince© but this is a family friendly event!

All CARW2012 caches should be medium or large sized, ammo cans are ideal. Other containers should be acquired at no (or little) cost to yourself. This means PB Jars, recycled LnL's!, or home-made containers are all excellent choices. Of course, all caches must contain a log book, and should have a pencil and some trading items. No Premium only hides (convert after the event please), and please DO NOT USE your smart phone to hide a cache. All CARW2012 caches must be winter friendly. (winter friendly over-rules cache size)
There will be a new “outer limit” this year to accommodate the ammo can theme, All caches should be within a 60 Kilometre radius from the Hotel Mac. The 60km radius sets the boundaries at ROUGHLY the same as the graphically superb map provided by VP

(in a counter-clockwise arc) Stony Plain+, Calmar, Leduc/Kavanagh, New Sarepta, Ministik, Ardossan, Red Water, Gibbons, Morinville+ and Calahoo. The posted coordinates are located at 100th Avenue and 100th Street in the heart of Downtown Edmonton. (or some where close, ok, nowhere close but cool coords anyway
There is no requirement to place your ammo can/cache container at or under a spruce tree, meaning that as long as the cache fulfils the above mentioned criteria, it can be a CARW2012 cache. All caches should include a Reviewer's Note, and MUST include CARW2012 at the end of the title. For example, Stumped by Another Lousy Pun (CARW2012) would suffice. If there are any issues regarding train tracks, clarification etc., please include this in the reviewers' note to make publishing easier. Cache Effect has requested that all caches be submitted no later than Wednesday, 22 February 2012.
Cache pages should use the following text (box not required):

This CARW2012 cache will be publish about 6:00pm on Thursday, 1 March 2012.
Please remember that caches CANNOT be hunted until 9:00 AM SATURDAY 3 March 2012.
Should you hunt and find this cache prior, it will not count for the event,
and FTF points are only valid as of 9:00 AM 3 March 2012.

2. FIND SOME CACHES

This year's event will commence at 9:00am on Saturday, 3 March 2012. Starting at this time, you can search out as many CARW2012 caches that you can. You can search in teams, with a buddy, with a dog, individually... whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure that you write down the time that you/your team finds the cache. If you want to qualify for points and prizes, ensure that you return to the banquet by 3:30 pm on Sunday, 4 March 2012 or risk losing points.
We are anticipating that Cache Effect will be publishing the CARW2012 caches at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Please remember that caches CANNOT be hunted until 9:00am the following SATURDAY morning. Any caches found prior will not count for the event, and FTF point are valid as of 0900 hours 3 March (unless we are able to do the night cache portion).

3. EARN SOME POINTS

Scoring rules will be coming soon! - NEED VOLUNTEER

4. COMPETE FOR PRIZES

It is our hope that we will have dozens of prizes available. Last year, we had enough prizes that everyone took home something (or multiples!) This year, we will strive for the same. Prizes could be awarded for the following CARW2012 achievements (subject to change):
• Best Hide Overall
• Best Puzzle Cache
• Most Difficult (D), as voted upon.
• Most Difficult (T), as voted upon.
• Most Embarrassing Story
• Most Caches Hidden
• Most Caches Found individual
• best use of coords
• Most Caches Found family (at least one child under 16)
• Most Winter Friendly Cache
• Best Use of a Container (get creative)
• Best “end of the world themed” cache/container (get creative)
• Most FTFs.
• Most Likely to be Muggled before Easter
• Newest Cacher
• Furthest Distance Traveled to Attend CARW2012

5. WRAP-UP-PARTY (log book signing)!

Starting at 3:30pm on Sunday, 4 March 2012, the CARW after-party will commence. You have 30 minutes to complete your score-sheet and submit it to the markers for review and prizes. The venue for the after-party will be the “Lancaster Golf and Curling Club”. The address = The Base. (not posted coords, as cool as they are)

At the after-party, the score-sheets will be tallied, prizes will be voted upon, and the Cache and Release Winter 2012 winners will be declared.

6. VOLUNTEER

This is your event – suggestions are welcome!

There are several reasons to volunteer your assistance to help run this shindig. You get to be a part of the greatest event ever held in Edmonton, you get to contribute to your community, and you will receive a good feeling that you are helping out.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help out before the event and during the banquet/after-party.
Even if you are not able to participate in the event, feel free to swing by the after-party, find a cache (or 100) after the event, or place caches regardless! Some of the best CARW caches in past years have been placed by people unable to attend the event. Please ensure you click the winter friendly attribute (confirm if still there).
