No windows? That's a bit cheep isn't it?
We might complain about petrel taxes but did you know that WINDOW taxes were a property based tax in force in the 18th and 19th centuries in England and a few other countries. To avoid the tax properties were often finished with windows yet to be installed, existing windows were bricked over. In some places elaborate attempts to give the appearance of windows were carried out. For example one might paint a section of wall as black as a crow and attach storm shutters that would tern normally thus 'giving' the illusion of being wealthy enough to pay the tax but in reality....well, who would swallow that?!
The occupants of this abode have gone one step further, no windows and even their door is painted on!
