Geocache Description:

Look Out for River Surge.

One of a series of 4 caches that will take you up a boulder strewn valley to where water supplies what we have called the Grey Nile Trail (GNT) similar to a Leet in the UK (which used flowing water to power mills) which is an artificial water course gradually following the mountainside contours to take water down to where it is needed for drinking or irrigation.

On a maintenance visit Jan 2020 we discovered GZ had been completely destroyed by the power of the river after heavy rains recently and so a new cache has been placed hopefully high enough to avoid future river surges.

This cache is part of the Pirates trail which links our other caches together all the way from the Ancient city of Kaunos near Dalyan to the Amazing Castle series and Waterfall caches at the North end of Lake Koycegiz. GC3A7FR. GC1RRKT.

When I was here in January I didn't have time to follow the grey concrete channel to find out where the source of the water was coming from so this time on my return to check out the "Coffin" I made my way up the valley to find the "source of the grey nile". On my first visit the river was raging down the valley to the lake, this time the water, unlike other places we visited, was still flowing although there was no sight of it from the road, after placing this cache I followed the flowing water back and found that it just disappeared into the stony river bed about 150 metres away from the bridge. There are a few nice plunge pools in the river if you need to cool off so take a towel if you fancy a dip.
