Old City North Wall 1.






This cache is part of the Pirates trail which links our other caches together all the way from the Ancient city of Kaunos near Dalyan to the Amazing Castle series and Waterfall caches at the North end of Lake Koycegiz.

Thought the hillside could be a great place for a cache as there would be a good chance of views over towards Dalyan, really surprised to be confronted by the wall in the photo as we climbed the hill, thought it was part of a castle to begin with but after following it for awhile it became clear that it was the North wall of the old city of Kaunos. The hillside gives great views down onto the ancient city and a large section on the west wall, the West wall even further down the hillside out of sight is where the Dalyan-Kaunos cache is hidden.




This series of caches will take you to some of the interesting historical remains along the old city defensive wall on the hillside above the Ancient City of Caunos which was built to help protect the city below, these walls of are up to 4 metres wide in places are built of intertwining shaped stones without any mortar. Considering the steep topography of the area it is still a mystery how the stones were carried to such height on this steep mountain or what technology was used.

The spoiler pictures on the Pirate Trail caches should make life a lot easier when searching for caches, not sure how to with other smart phones but if you have an Iphone, get the spoiler picture on the screen and press the off button with the button on the front of the phone at the same time and it will take a picture of what is on the screen and save it to your photo gallery so you can access the spoilers at GZs without the roaming charges.
