Caval ëd Brons
Caval ëd Brons ( [ka?val?t'br??z], in italiano Cavallo di Bronzo) è il tipico nome piemontese con cui viene chiamato il monumento equestre ad Emanuele Filiberto collocato in piazza san Carlo, il salotto di Torino. Per molti aspetti questo monumento viene visto come simbolo della stessa città di Torino.
La statua equestre del Duca si erge al centro della piazza con particolare imponenza. Ritrae Emanuele Filiberto nell'atto di ringuainare la spada dopo la gloriosa vittoria ottenuta nella Battaglia di San Quintino, alla quale alludono i sottostanti bassorilievi. La statua poggia su un piedistallo in granito rosso di Baveno, con intagli di bronzo che ornano la base e la cimasa; su ogni lato è presente lo stemma sabaudo con la corona ducale.
Se la statua è stata fusa dal Marocchetti a Parigi, il basamento è invece stato curato a Torino, dal Bonsignore. I due bassorilievi che lo ornano raffigurano due atti delle guerre d'Italia a cui partecipò il duca Testa di Ferro: quello ad ovest descrive la Battaglia di San Quintino, quello ad est la pace di Cateau-Cambrésis.
Alla sera il monumento è illuminato da uno speciale impianto luci.

Curiosità: recatevi alle coordinate N45°04.048 E007°40.914. Sarete in prossimità dello storico Caffè Torino. Davanti all'ingresso è posizionato il simbolo della città: un toro rampante. Si dice che calpestarne i testicoli porti bene... perchè non farlo??

The Caval ëd Brons, literally translated as Bronze Horse, is the typical Piedmontese name which is called the equestrian monument to Emanuele Filiberto located in Piazza San Carlo, Turin's "living room". In many respects, this monument is seen as a symbol of the city of Turin.
The equestrian statue of the Duke stands at the center of the square with particular impressiveness. It portrays the act of Emanuele Filiberto sheathe the sword after the glorious victory at the Battle of St. Quintino, which allude to the underlying bas-reliefs. The statue stands on a pedestal of red granite of Baveno, bronze carvings that adorn the base and the cornice, on each side there is the Savoy coat of arms with the ducal crown.
If the statue was cast in Paris by Marocchetti, the base was, however, kept in Turin from Bonsignore. The two bas-reliefs that adorn two acts depicting the wars of Italy he attended the Duke Testa di Ferro (Iron Head): the West one describes the Battle of St. Quintino, the east one the peace of Cateau-Cambresis.
In the evening the monument is illuminated by a special lighting system.

Trivia: go to coordinates N45°04.048 E007°40.914. You will be near the Caffè Torino. On the ground, in front of the entrance, there is the symbol of the city: a rampant bull. It is said that i you tread on the testicles, it will bring good luck ... why not do it?
