Active-Fire: Sorry the fire destroyed all these. I don't have the time or the energy to make the climb up this hill anymore so they have to go.

Geocache Description:

Hike the Yucaipa Ridge Truck Trail and SCE Flume Trail.

Do not attempt this series of caches if you are not physically fit, it is a tough hike.
Carry plenty of water and pack a lunch, you will need it!
Enjoy the fantastic views from the trail!

Park at the Historical Powerhouse Marker (N34 05.316 - W117 02.351) on Route 38 enroute to Big Bear, CA. There is room to park without blocking the access road to the powerhouse. A Forest Adventure Pass is required to park here. Be sure to read the interesting facts on the Historical Marker before heading out. The water for the turbine generators enters a pipe 6.5 miles (7.0 aqueduct miles) up Route 38 from here in Forest Falls and is then stored in a small pond before dropping 1900 feet to the powerhouse.

The trailhead can be reached by walking due south, left of the old stone wall, along the hillside beneath the large pine trees, thereby skirting the powerhouse property. Follow the blacktop drive to the end where you will find the trail headed east up the hill. You will switchback for a short time and then head straight up the steep hogback (electrical & flume pipe path) until you reach the SCE access road (Yucaipa Ridge Truck Trail is closed to public vehicles) at N34 05.406 - W117 01.566. Turn left here and follow the road, you should be much relieved as the hard part is over, except for the descent back down that steep trail!

If you attempt all my caches in the series (YRTT #1 through YRTT #8 and the SCE Flume #1 through Flume #6) you will hike just over 9 miles with a SERIOUS elevation gain of 2000 feet in the first 1.5 miles! You will pass through two different burn areas then an old oak and pine forest. Enjoy a break at the flume holding pond which is lined with Redwoods and blackberries at 4800 feet before continuing on to the series end. Deer, bear and lots of small animals frequent the area all along the ridge and you will see tracks in the soft dusty roadbed as you trek across the ridge.

Don’t forget to log the Benchmark (AH5242) on Mill Peak (5000’) while there.
Come prepared, have fun and enjoy the views.
