Neagles Rock for thousands of years this region was home to Ngadjui people who adopted a sustainable approach to the natural resouces, Vital to their survival. In the 1840's cattleman George Neagle one of the first European settlers settled in Clare, he took up land at the foot of this Tall Rock formation. It become a Popular Picnic ground & was soon Known as Neagles Rock. In 1935 the hill was in danger of being stripped of its timber but Henry Lewcock suggested the property be purchased by Public Subscription and made into a flora & fauna Santuary. the land was purchased in October 1936 by Clare Coorporation. Neagles Rock is an early example of the Conservation Parks in South australia being one of the first conservation parks which still has a few remnants of surviving Eucalyptus Grassy Woodlands , this is a true reflection of how the Ngadjuri people would have seen this land centuries Ago. Now this area seems to have been neglected there is a overgrown walking trail which you walk at your own risk, so becareful here
