Geocache Description:

Treasure Lake.

It is one of the few freshwater ponds close to the shore of Raritan Bay. This small lake is surrounded by a marsh with a border of woods. For any birdwatchers, many birds can be found around this little lake. In winter, check the pond for waterfowl including Pied-billed Grebe, Wood Duck, Gadwall, and Hooded Merganser. The bay here can be good for Common and Red-throated Loons, Horned Grebe, and waterfowl. During migration, wading birds and passerines can be found around the lake.

Treasure Lake has a link to the pirate Captain Kidd and legend has it that there is treasure in the area. Two links with more information on this subject: (visit link) (visit link)

On the bay side you can see the pilings in the water which are all that remain of the boardwalk that was destroyed in 1960 by Hurricane Donna.

You are looking for a camoed bison tube off the maintenance road that runs parallel to the seawall. About ten feet of bushwhacking will be required. Please replace exactly as you found it.

Parking is available:
1. By the basketball courts on Ocean Boulevard, just off Lakeshore Drive. Walk along the shore till you get to the seawall and follow that to GZ.
2. At the other end of the seawall at the end of Beach Drive. Very limited parking here.
3. Or closest parking is at the end of Woodland Drive, also with limited parking.
