Geocache Description:


The Coordinates given are NOT the location of the cache, they are the coordinates of the first information board on the Towton Battlefield Trail.

The cache is located at North AB° CD.EFG West HIJ° KL.MNO

This Cache hunt is a five miles circular walk, the walking is nice and easy but the cache is hard to get to so please if you have children with you let them watch as an adult retrieves the cache!

After parking at the suggested location please walk to all the information boards on the Towton Battlefield trail answering the following questions!

BOARD 1
Find out how many more soldiers the Lancastrians had over the Yorkists?
When you have the answer add all four digits together to get “N”

BOARDS 2 and 3
On what day in March was Edward Earl of March hailed King Edward the fourth at Westminster Abbey? This gives you “O”

BOARDS 4 and 5
The Towton Battlefield Archaeology project began in what year?
Use the last digit in the year to give you “L”

How many years were the mass graves lost?
When you have the answer, reverse the numbers to give you “H.I.J”

In 2008 a member of the Towton Battlefield Archaeology Project unearthed a Lead Shot with his metal detector, what diameter was it? This gives you “B”

BOARD 6
How many hands was a Pollaxe designed to be used with?
This gives you “G”

How many hands was a Horseman Hammer normally used with?
This gives you “K”

What is the bore diameter of most surviving 15th century handguns?
Use the second digit to give you “C”

BOARD 7
Find out the difference between the death toll that “Hall” gives at Towton and the more commonly accepted figure recorded by heralds after the battle?
When you have the answer divide it by 8, now use the first digit of your answer to give you “D” and the second digit to give you “M”

BOARD 8
What year did Sir Henry Vavasour become the Sheriff for Yorkshire?
Add the second and fourth digits together to get “A”

At this point if you add all your answers up you will have a total of 36

BOARD 9
Warwick was killed at Barnet in what year?
Use the last digit to get “F”

Subtract the first digit from the second to get “E”

Now GO FIND THE CACHE !

Once you have found the cache walk back towards information board 10 but at the top of the lane turn left then right at the main road the next right brings you back to your parking place.
