A nice, easy find in the town of Llangollen
This cache is a magnetic micro situated near to the site of the original Lower Dee Mill. Cotton came to Llangollen in 1805 when Lower Dee Mill was built, but only lasted 30 years as slumps in the trade caused successive bankruptcies. The prospering wool trade with it’s mechanical looms took over and the Mill was bought by Hughes and Roberts in 1835. They expanded into the Upper Mill in 1855. Both remained in production until 1921 giving Llangollen a 130 year connection with the trade. The site was later occupied by Cuthberts seed merchants.
The next stage of the building's life saw it becoming home to the world's largest ever Doctor Who exhibition - (visit link) - but its licence expired just as the series came back to our screens!
The site has now been redeveloped with apartments occupying the site.
Lower Dee Mill also originally contained a turbine to generate power for the town utilising the power of the River Dee. Part of this was recently renovated and installed - along with picnic benches - alongside the river.
Please keep an eye on geokids as the cache is situated quite close to the Dee.
Also, please ensure you keep your eyes peeled for muggles while at GZ, and that the cache is placed back so that it's out of site. You'll need your own pen, and tweezers wouldn't go amiss either! Happy Hunting.....
