Novel Cache: The Rosetta Stone Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mario McTavish: I came out today to check on these novel caches. Unfortunately most are well past their best.

In some cases the 'novel' aspect of the cache was missing completely meaning that there was no theme to the container. Odd that the theme would disappear but the container remain...

In light of the missing themes and general 'tiredness' of the caches I've decided to archive them.

Thanks to all the finders over the years.

Geocache Description:

A micro cache with a large hitch-hiker but no pen.

This is dedicated to the book about the Rosetta Stone and the re-birth of Ancient Egypt by John Ray. The Rosetta Stone has been in the British Museum for over 200 years and is the single most visited object in the entire collection. A Pharaohs forgotten decree, recorded in three scripts, the stone is the key to the lost hieroglyphs of Ancient Egypt. The Stone was discovered by Napoleons troops in 1799 and provoked an exciting race between the British and the French to unlock the door to the language of Ancient Egypt and its 3000 years of history. This is a brilliant retelling of its story and offers a wonderful overview of the fascinating world of Egyptology and some provocative thoughts on the problems posed by "archaeological loot".

This is one of a series of Novel Caches where we have tried to make the container or hitch-hiker link to the title of a book (sometimes some lateral thinking is needed to make the connection!)

Most of the log containers are micros but there are a few in the series that are a bit larger for swaps.

We hope you have as much fun finding them as we did placing the.
