A gold coin awaits the FTF.
Spanish explorers first brought peaches to the Carolinas in the 1500s, thus many early settlers thought the peach was native to the area. Although South Carolina began to grow peaches commercially in the 1850s, their popularity did not really take off until the 1920s when the boll weevil caused many farmers to switch crops from cotton to peaches.
Then in 1984 the peach became the state fruit of South Carolina. Today the state produces 60,000 tons of peaches - even more than Georgia "The Peach State".
Many people are surprised to learn the peach is actually native to China where it has been cultivated for over 4000 years.
