Dewitt Charter Township is located in Clinton County just north of Lansing. Dewitt Charter Township was named after Dewitt Clinton who was Governor of New York in the 1830s. The area was settled by Captain David Scott who came to the area from Ann Arbor in 1833. The State Legislature created Dewitt Township on March 23, 1836. Welcome J. Partelo was named township's first Supervisor. The Township became a Charter Township on November 7, 1978. This area of Dewitt Charter Township is often called Valley Farms.
