Hamilton Hume was one of the great early Australian explorers.
Hume's Grave
Hume was born at Parramatta in 1797, and by the age of 17 was exploring the interior. He is best known for his epic journey overland to Port Phillip, but was involved in many other smaller expeditions to places such as Berrima, Goulburn, Lakes Bathurst & George, Jervis Bay, Clyde River & Braidwood. He also accompanied Charles Sturt on his expedition to the interior discovering the Darling river.
