My first LetterBox Hybrid hide...Enjoy!
Since i've been geocaching, i've always wanted to hide a letterbox hybrid....and to my knowledge there hasnt been one hidden at Shenango Lake, so I figured this would be a great place to start!
To begin your journey, I suggest parking in the lot provided along Kane Road. From there, walk down the wide mowed path, which sometimes is very wet, until you get to the posted coordinates. The letterbox is NOT there...here is where the "letterbox" part starts.
Here is where the journey gets interesting. Walk out to the end of the path. In the fall & winter you will notice something interesting....the LAKE IS GONE! Most of the water has been drawn down for the winter pool, so you should be able to walk along the "bottom of the lake"...now how cool is that?
In other times of the year (spring/summer) the lake will likely be at normal pool...so you will have to adjust your path accordingly.
Once at the end of the path, turn LEFT and either walk along the lakebed or shoreline. You will continue along the shoreline for approximately .32 miles along the shoreline and you will come to a Point.
At this point, if you look out across the lake, you SHOULD be able to see a large white barn on the far opposite side of the lake. If you can see that, then you are at the correct spot.
NOW, you are very very close to GZ. Start your search by going directly up into the woods from the apex of the point. The cache will be located near a "horizontal tree"...if you catch my "drift"
Round trip, it could be about a mile long walk...very enjoyable in the fall & winter months. During hunting seasons, wear orange & REMEMBER to leave the STAMP pad & STAMP in the cache...its part of the letterbox, not SWAG!!!
