A Golden Globe (lift GENTLY) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Caches archived for lack of maintenance or response cannot be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Hollywood's awards season is upon us, so I am hiding a golden globe to celebrate the Golden Globe Awards. Please use care in retreiving the cache from its hide location - lift gently, do not yank.

This cache container was given to me by my sister and brother-in-law, and I thought it would be perfect to hide during the upcoming Hollywood awards season. I placed it in a public area near the George Eastman House.

According to Wikipedia:
"The Golden Globe Award is an accolade bestowed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign. The annual formal ceremony and dinner at which the awards are presented is a major part of the film industry's awards season, which culminates each year with the Academy Awards.

The 1st Golden Globe Awards were held in January 1944 at the 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles. The 69th Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best in film and television for 2011, will be presented on January 15, 2012, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, where they have been held annually since 1961."
The most recent "local" winner that I could find was John Lithgow, who won a Golden Globe in 2010 for Best Supporting Actor (Television) for his role in the HBO series "Dexter". Fairport-born actor Philip Seymour Hoffman won a Golden Globe in 2005 for his role as Truman Capote in the film "Capote" (he later won an Oscar for the same performance). Although Mr. Hoffman did not win, he was nominated for Golden Globes 3 other times (once in 2009 for Best Supporting Actor in "Doubt"; and twice in 2008, for Best Actor in "The Savages" and for Best Supporting Actor in "Charlie Wilson's War".)

I have not been able to find any other Rochester-area connections to the Golden Globes, but if you tell me any that I missed, I'll add them here.

The cache itself is a small golden ball, about the size of a large marble. There is an outer package and a retrieval mechanism. PLEASE BE SURE THE OUTER PACKAGE CLOSES TIGHT, or my golden globe will be lost forever. You will probably need to use stealth, as the area can be quite busy at times. This is the only container of this kind that I own - it will not be easy to replace. You will need your own pen/pencil and please write small!

Congratulations to Cimsagro4 for FTF!

Thanks to savingfish for pointing out a very prolific Golden Globe winner with Rochester connections. Ingrid Bergman and her first husband lived in Rochester in the early 1940s while he attended the University of Rochester. Ingrid won Golden Globes in 1945 for Best Actress in "Gaslight"; in 1946 for Best Actress in "The Bells of St. Mary's" (also an Oscar-winning performance); in 1957 for Best Actress in "Anastasia" (also an Oscar-winning performance); and again in 1983 for Best Actress (Television) in "A Woman Called Golda" (and yet again another Oscar-winning performance). She was also nominated for an additional 3 Golden Globes. Thanks, keep the knowledge coming!!!
