This has to be one of my favourite places. Amazing rock formations, lots of nikau, and roots of northern rata reaching down like giant tentacles.
The Grove is well worth a visit at any time of year, but when the rata are flowering around mid December it is especially beautiful.
A lookout at the end of the track provides panoramic views of Golden Bay, including the length of Farewell Spit.
Allow time for the chidren to explore the fascinating rock formations, but, as the sign says, be aware that multiple hazards exist.
