There's plenty to do at Worser Bay. Along with the basic sand and water activities Worser Bay is home to a scout group, a surf life saving club, and a sailing club.

Named after James Heberly's frequent predictions of "worser" weather, the beach still boasts the original cottage (229 Marine Parade) which housed ships pilots from 1866. Heberly was Wellington's first ships pilot.
Worser Bay beach offers safe swimming and is quite popular in the summer. There's a concrete jetty at the northern end and rock pools with sea life at the southern end. Sand dunes along the rear of much of the beach provide lovely shelter. During winter months the beach is dog friendly, and in summer before 9am and after 7pm.
The Sea Scouts group, which has a Cub Pack, a Scout Troop and a small Venturer Unit, has experienced rapid growth since 2010. It draws youth members from all over the Miramar Peninsula. The Sea Scouts hall was built in 1967 atop a wartime Mine Control Building, which has since been converted to hold the dinghy yachts and rowing boats.
Worser Bay Life Saving Club offers sea swimming, board training, surf competitions and carnivals. Opportunities also exist in life guard teams, life guard training, and towards IRB driver qualification. The inaugural meeting of club members was held on Tuesday December 13 1910, and as result Worser Bay took its place in history as the 3rd life saving club ever to have been established in New Zealand.
The Worser Bay Boating Club was founded in 1926 and has become a leader in the New Zealand-specific Sunburst class dinghy yacht. There is also a strong emphasis on youth sailing in Optomist, P-Class and Starling dinghies. Of late, 420s and Skiffs have become increasing popular.
(Worser Bay is number 3 of 4 in SJME's Pirate Geocache preliminary series)
