Geocache Description:

This is my first hide in an undiscovered section of Allamuchy Mountain State Park (my favorite park) for a special geo-friend.

Small parking area is available across from the Shell Station on northbound 517. Alternate parking at Panther Valley Mall next to the Shell (be careful crossing 517).

Cache is a large Tupperware-type container filled with party stuff. **Prize for FTF**

****Trail can be muddy in spots depending on the season and recent precipitation. Hunting is allowed, so plan accordingly and take the necessary precautions. Beware of flying roof parts near farm****

This section of AMSP was once part of the Rutherford/Stuyvesant estate. The family enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and actually imported elk and deer to this section of their property (this is how Deer Park section got its name). The family sold the property to the State in the early 1970s which created today's 9,000+ acres of AMSP. The Miller family farmed this property until the State bought it.

AMSP manages the property under the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP). This program falls under the Division of Parks & Forestry and the Natural Resource Conservation Service. I'm grateful that the State is preserving this land for wildlife and for our enjoyment as well.!!

Follow the road between the buildings to the Allamuchy Pond Trail, or go NE thru the field (you'll see the tire ruts) to the APT. If you follow the road, you'll have to bypass a huge downed tree. Take the APT to the unmarked trail to the White Trail.

Happy hiking and hunting!! I hope you enjoy this section of AMSP!!

*-*-*-*-*- HAVE FUN CELEBRATING ANOTHER MILESTONE, BigA!!!! -*-*-*-*-*

If you stay on the White Trail past the cache (about .3 miles), you will connect with the Yellow Trail which will take you to the first parking lot in the Deer Park section of AMSP.

You could hike about a 7 mile loop taking the White Trail -> the Yellow -> the White Trail back to the parking area on 517!!

You could also hike north on the APT to find a few more caches!!

* * * CONGRATULATIONS TO HIKERFAM11 FOR FTF!!! * * *
