"ForTune Favours the brave"
I have spent many happy but contemplative hours walking this “open access” forestry area, with my dogs, Millie, and (those now at rest) Benjie and “young gun” Sam. Also with my daughters, who just occasionally, off-load a problem or two, the fast pace of life eh ! – the trees are “just there”, listening, hearing your thoughts, but making no judgement. .
When it was thought that the forests may be “sold off” – oh, such despair; but thanks to the Woodland Trust, Save Cannock Chase, other campaign groups, and everyone’s support, this seems to have been averted – for now; and we can all enjoy “our” bit of wilderness for a while longer.
You can follow your arrow, from wherever you decide to park, and “Indiana Jones” your way directly through the undergrowth; or try and spot tracks on Google or Streetmap that may take you closer.
You will see on Streetmap, Mutchill’s Well and Mutchill's Gutter.
Very little is known about this character but his ghost is said to visit his favourite tree – and guess where GZ is ? …. even in daylight a shadowy, stooped figure, is sometimes seen.
Now the locals may be tempted by a FTF in the dark, but remember -
