Stage 1 of the Hinze Dam cost $25 million and was completed in 1976, stage 2 in 1989, & stage 3 in 2011.
The 2011 upgrade saw the dam wall raised by 15 metres, for a measly $370 mill more. (but did admittedly double the dam’s capacity).
Visitors are encouraged to visit the facilities and state-of-the-art Interpretive Centre, lakeside parks, walking, bike and horse trails.
The new spanky visitors centre is worth a visit, and will be the icing on the cake of a relatively easy FIND.
NOTE Site open from 6.00am to 6.00pm daily, accessible only from Advancetown Road, via Nerang Murwillumbah Rd, (not via Gilston Rd where there are other good caches).
The Outlet System is described as an "Uncontrolled ogee crest"
(extra points if you email me with what that means!)
found on the Seqwater website.
Big shout out to Kay and Bob for maintaining this cache for me since 2012
