Geocache Description:

Did you know cottonwoods...

- are part of the willow family?
- were a welcome site to early travelers crossing the plains or the deserts because it signaled the presence of water?
- are the Wyoming State Tree?
- under the right conditions, can grow to be one of the continent's largest trees?
- if mature, can use 200 gallons of water a day?
- can live to be over 100 years old?
- are related to poplars and aspens?
- a single mature female in particular, can produce a summer snow flurry of 48 million non-allergenic fluffy seeds?
- are the source of spiritual art by the Pueblo Indians and Hispanic Santeros, who carved the roots from cottonwoods undercut and swept downriver?
- are known to have "weak" wood and may drop branches during strong winds?
- were used by American pioneers as shelter, firewood, and animal fodder?
- have leaves that turn brilliant yellow in the autumn, attracting photographers, painters, and nature lovers of all kinds.

CONGRATULATIONS to DrJay for being smart enough to stay snugly tucked in his warm blankets on the freezing January day this cache was published, yet still making the FTF before the sun came up!
