This cache has been hidden as part of the annual Hide And Go Cache 8 (HAG8) and is not to be released/published until Saturday Feb 4, 2012.
Cache is NOT located at Chapman’s Plot; it is on the opposite side of the road. Watch for muggle golfers and BYOP.
Please note that if you want to see the Chapman Plot up-close, you are welcome to do so, but one of the weird things about it is that it is located in somebody's yard and the property owners ask that folks remain on the road allowance when they are visiting.
William Richard Chapman, 1866-1885, was a young man whose family were early settlers in the Cobble Hill/Mill Bay area. Chapman Road, located about 1 km away, was named after the family and it was once part of the original Chapman family acreage, as is the current piece of property where the plot sits. When I was a child I was told by a local historian that this grave was a family plot that was placed on the Chapman homestead back in the mid-1800’s, as was the custom of the time for pioneers who were located in rural areas that did not have cemeteries. Not only is it weird in this day and age to have a grave in your yard, but I have also been told by those who recall seeing the Chapman family plot many years before the current grave marker was placed, that there are two Chapman family members buried here, even though the grave marker only lists William. How weird is that?
