This was my first ever cache found and got me hooked on geocaching, so I was saddened to see that it had been archived. Thanks to samiam99 for placing the first one, I hope this cache can last.
Located, inbetween two 5 star hotels, this old Banyan Tree was preserved by Swire Properties Ltd. during the construction of Pacific Place. The tree is believed to have been planted in about 1870 as part of the British Military Forces Victoria Barracks which occupied this site until 1979.
Preservation of this tree required the construction of a cylindrical structure with a diameter of 18 metres and a depth of 10 metres in order to contain the roots. The total cost was HK$23,890,227 and this is believed to be the most expensively preserved tree in the world!
The Shangri-la hotel staff maintain the grounds well and are suspicious of people around the tree. Make sure you are muggle-free when grabbing and replacing, thanks.
