Geocache Description:

Real estate is a big deal on Oak Island, and it pays to know about how interest is compounded! This cache is not about money, though. The Town of Oak Island maintains a parcel of land as a small park, including a dog park, that it calls “the Compound,” probably because it is enclosed by an ornate cinderblock wall. This cache is not at the posted coordinates. Read the story, use the Web, and solve the puzzle to find it!

This park is named for a man who played a large part in the development of Oak Island over the decades during which he lived here. Through his work as President of the National Development Corporation, he laid out the town’s streets and got them built, fostered development of the Big Davis Canal, gained authority to establish the airport, and was one of the founding members of the Oak Island Golf Club. A contribution that makes Oak Island unique among islands in the region is the amount of public access we have for the beach. This man chaired the committee that raised funds for purchase and development of the first street ends that allow visitors and residents to get to the sea strand. The island now has a remarkable 67 accesses!

To find the cache, you’ll need to do some Internet searching for information to solve the puzzle and fill in the coordinates:
N 33 AB.CD W 078 7.EF

A = Sum of the digits in the month + year in which this famous man died.
B = First digit of the nearest street number by the park.
C = Day of the month in which the man died.
D = His age at death, minus 14.
E = First and last digits of the year when the park was established, minus 5. This will give you a 2 digit number.
F = The man donated land to establish the first _ _ beach accesses at street ends. Add the two digits and subtract 1 to get F.

When you post your find, please don’t add spoilers that would diminish the experience for the next cachers!
