Geocache Description:

A magnetic nano that tells a tale.

=================================================

The Tale : At the end of WWII the Germans developed an early form of jet powered cruise missile which was called the “Vergeltungswaffe 1”, “Retaliation Weapon 1” or V1. In Britain the V1 was colloquially known as the Doodlebug. Between 13 June 1944 and 29 March 1945 the Doodlebug was fired from launch sites along the French and Dutch coasts at cities such as London and Antwerp. It had a maximum range of 150 miles so none reached the North of England.

However, the dastardly Hun also developed a method of launching this weapon from the air.
On Christmas Eve 1944, a formation of Heinkel bombers flying over the North Sea launched 45 V1 Flying Bombs from off the Lincolnshire coast. The target was Manchester.

The bombs took on average of thirty minutes before they reached their target. One landed in Oldham on a row of cottages, killing 27 people and seriously injuring 49. Another landed in Tottington on a row of terraced houses killing 6.

And one landed here in Woodstock Drive and “hit and destroyed a house about a third of the way up on the right hand side”. There are no reports of casualties – which is a surprise given the time it landed (5:30 a.m.).

So the main question is: where did it land? Well, there are no gaps on the right hand side of the road, so the house must have been re-built. And I’d say number 16 is a different style from the others .... but you may think differently.
