Hoffa was a famous Union leader who believed in the working man. He was born February 14, 1913, disappeared July 30, 1975, declared legally dead July 30, 1982. Pushing workers rights to the extreme limits, he was known to do whatever it took to defend workers rights. From 1932 to 1975 he worked with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. During this time it grew to 1.5 million members, the largest union in the United States. In 1964 he was convicted of fraud, bribery, and jury tampering and in 1967 he was sentenced to 13 years. In 1971 as part of a pardon he resigned from the union until the term of his sentence was complete. He would have been able to regain leadership in 1980, and was already in the process of regaining support. On July 30, 1975 Hoffa went to meet up with someone at the Machus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Sometime after 2:30pm he went missing. He was supposedly meeting with a member of the mob. He had been known on several occasions to meet with mob members. Nobody was ever proven guilty and a body was never found.
