Legends of the Call #0001 - Little Sandhurst Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Professor Xavier: Hi

Sadly I notice that this cache has gone missing and has been changed to a virtual logging method.

This isn't permitted under the guidelines so would have to be changed back to a physical cache.

However when BT stated they no longer wanted caches placed in BT phone boxes they also said that once such caches required maintenance or went missing they had to be archived. The forum post is here.

Therefore I have no choice but to archive this listing rather than ask the CO to replace the cache.

Regards,

Ed - Prof X.

Geocache Description:

Modernisation and then mobile phone ownership signalled the end for this iconic symbol of Britain, yet deep affection has staved off the final extinction of the red telephone box.

In many locations it isn't economically viable for BT to maintain them but local councils can adopt them for £1.
Brookwood is a prime example of how a village saved their K6 box.

I am sure many people will have fond memories of times when the glow of a telephone box came as a welcome relief - if you had broken down or become lost and needed to call in International Rescue - the sound of the operator asking your parents if they would accept the charges or the sound of the pips as your last 5 or 10p was being used up.
It was a life-line that most people nowadays won't appreciate until their mobile phone runs flat.

This first "Legends of the Call" cache is placed in a rather dilapidated box where the council have rejected the offer to adopt it and it's days may well be numbered, unless local residents follow Brookwood's example.

To alter some lyrics...
Don't it always seem to go,
That you don't know what you've got 'til its gone,
They paved paradise and ripped up a telephone box..

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

Someone loves this Telephone Box after all and has replaced the missing door and given it a new lick of paint - Yay! I can forgive them for stealing my cache while they were at it .

Please feel free to extend the Legends of the Call series, just let me know and I can manage the numbers.
