AMEZOLA: RECUERDOS DEL FERROCARRIL
Durante muchos años, Amézola fue un gran agujero en el cual se ubicaba una amplia zona de carga de ferrocarriles. Desde aquí se gestionaba la mercancía procedente o dirigida hacia el puerto de Bilbao, por unas vías que discurrían a través de una trinchera, y que partían a Bilbao en dos.
En 1990 estos trabajos se trasladaron al puerto exterior. A partir de entonces se cubrió el gran agujero y las vías desde Amézola hasta Olabeaga, y se creó una gran avenida (Avda. del Ferrocarril). Sobre la antigua zona de carga se construyó un gran parque rodeado de bloques de viviendas, que se inauguró en el año 2000.
Para aprovechar las líneas de mercancías de Santurtzi (Renfe) y Balmaseda (Feve) que pasan por aquí, se modificaron los recorridos de los trenes de cercanías por Bilbao, y se construyeron varias nuevas estaciones: una de ellas en Amézola.
Date una vuelta por el parque, rodea el estanque....y hazte una idea de cómo era este lugar antes, y cómo ha cambiado ahora.

AMEZOLA: MEMORIES OF THE RAILWAY
During a lot of years, Amezola was a big hole in which there was a wide zone for loading of trains. The goods from or to the maritime port of Bilbao were controled in this place, through a railway along a trench. This trench cut Bilbao in two parts.
In 1990 these works were removed to the outer maritime port. Since that moment, the big hole and the railway from Amezola to Olaveaga were covered, and a great avenue was born (Avda. del Ferrocarril / Railway Avenue). Over the old zone for loading of trains, a big park and many buildings of residences were set. All was inaugurated in 2000.
For taking advantage of the old railways to Santurtzi (Renfe) and Balmaseda (Feve), the local train lines were modified and new stations were built, one of them in Amezola.
Have a walk by the park, go around the lake......and make an idea about this place before, and how it has changed now.
