Mr. 0: I've had a change of heart about owing cemetery caches, so I'm archiving them. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Geocache Description:

A typical cemetery micro. As with all cemeteries, please be respectful. Caching from dawn until dusk only.

This cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Marion. It was laid out by Eber Baker, Marion's founder, in 1822. It was originally the resting place of the families of many of Marion's founders. Some of those graves were apparently moved to the newer Marion Cemetery when it was opened. In June of 1854 Marion experienced a cholera epidemic. As a result 65 of Marion's 1300 people died, and most of them were buried here.

Unfortunately time and vandals have not been kind to this old cemetery, so only a few headstones remain.

There is no dedicated parking. I have always parked along the south side of Quarry St. when I've visited here. Please be careful, and respectful of the cemetery. Only visit between dawn and dusk. There should be no reason to cross any marked graves.
