Geocache Description:

Tsukuba rest station

There was a 40-kilometer railway connecting between Tsuchiura and Iwase stations in the old days. It is said that trains running against a background of Mt. Tsukuba were popular among the railway fans. However, the railway was abolished in 1987 unfortunately. The railway site has been now reused as a cycling path called Tsukuba Rin-Rin road. The road is now used for recreation healthfully. Of course, it is also used for daily life such as commuting and shopping. I heard an event named Tsukuba 100-kilometer walk is held in spring on the road. Let's try!?

By the way, I placed a cache at the Tsukuba rest station. There is a free parking lot. In addition, a bicycle can be rent seasonally from the bus station(April - November, 9:00-15:00, 500yen/day). You will enjoy cycling or trekking to Mt. Tsukuba from here. The altitude of this place is about 25 m.
