Geocache Description:

Mr Owen was murdered at this site in 1864. You will need to travel on a dirt road to access this cache. May not be accessible to some smaller vehicles (2WD) during wet conditions. Watch out for kangaroos and goannas on the road.

In early May, 1864, Mr Owen was shot in the back of the head returning home one evening. He was travelling on horseback with the Rvd Mr Thackeray who was quite shocked by the whole ordeal. Mr Owen did not pay a man named Ritchie 20 pounds for bad performance of work. Ritchie subsequently threatened to shoot Mr Owen in the head if he did not pay him, a threat that he followed through with not long after.

For all recollection Mr Owen was a kindhearted gentleman, and Ritchie a displeasant thug.
