Geocache Description:

Bisley Valley Nature Reserve is situated on the western side of Pietermaritzburg. Early in the last century the area was used for Bisley shooting.

This thorn veld reserve is 250 ha and includes a variety of habitats including grassland, open and closed woodland, and thickets.
There is a variety of bushveld birds, giraffe, impala and zebra. There is no entrance fee payable and picnic site with braai facilities is available. Toilets are there as well but were locked when inspected.

Access is off Gladys Manzi (Murray) Road. The security gate to the horse stables is often closed but not locked and can be pushed open. Follow the signs to the picnic / parking. Here at parking the hinge gate is always locked but there is foot access.
From the hinge gate there is many ways to the hide, the safest for all seasons is to head South along the path until you pick up the John Pringle trail signs, which then point you West. Follow the signs to the hide.

I was hoping to cache at the bird hide itself as it is a lovely spot to watch yellow weavers build their nests in summer, but the hide is under constant maintenance and not ideal. The cache is further along across the dam wall.

Take a drop of water and depending on the season, sunscreen and mozzie-muti.
