Geocache Description:

GREAT NEWS: Stacy Springer, the Event/Volunteer Manager from the ARPF will be joining us. She has been looking forward to meet our group, and will be on-hand to do sign-ups and bring supplies. WELCOME STACY!

This is the regular monthly event for RCGDS and our quarterly CITO all rolled into one. Let’s bring a breakfast item to share so that we can get our nutritional needs met before we get down to the CITO business. Please indicate in your Will Attend log what you plan to bring to share.

It's time to take care of one of the playgrounds in which you hunt. This event will NOT be about the "Cache In" but all about the "Trash Out"!!

This event is to cover the first quarter of 2012 to get our group's required service hours done for adopting this mile.

Come and join the local geocaching community in doing a trash sweep of the RCGDS Mile. (This is the mile of the parkway adopted by the members of the RCGDS) We need to get in a total of 20 hours of work maintaining this mile stretch of the parkway per quarter and what better way to do this than by having an organized event! Afterwards, or during, there are many great caches to be found along the RCGDS Mile!

The RCGDS Mile has varied terrain. During the event you can choose your preferred areas of cleaning but be prepared. There are flat areas, creek beds, rock piles and very steep embankments, not to mention the river bank. By participating in this event you will receive a parking pass for the park to use during the event. The American River Parkway Foundation will provide the trash bags and final trash removal. All we need to do is collect the junk and get it to a trash can along the mile or to the parking lot.

The Details:

Date: February 11th, 2012

Time: 9AM to Noon or whenever we are done. Remember, we will have our breakfast tailgate first! The raffle, and any club announcements, will be made at Noon (or when the CITO work is finished). Any donations of raffle items will be greatly appreciated!

Place: RCGDS Mile. The posted coordinates are for the parking area for our tailgate breakfast, sign-ups, distribution of supplies, and raffle. (Parking Passes to be provided onsite.)

Waivers: All participants must complete a waiver to participate unless you have already turned in your 2012 ARPF waiver. A special Youth Waiver of Liability will also need to be completed by a parent or guardian of anyone under the age of 18. (These forms will be available onsite)

Community Service: If you have, or know of, any kids that need to fill community service hours for school, this event counts! Bring the forms for me to sign.

What to Wear: Long pants and maybe a long sleeve shirt. Hiking boots or sneakers. NO OPEN TOE SHOES!!

What to Bring: The usual for a CITO. Work gloves, sunscreen (or a rain poncho - if winter decides to show up!), water, brimmed hat, those picker-upper grabby contraptions so you don't have to bend over as much. Buckets, wagons, and hand trucks are great too, if you have them.

Things To Think About: There are the usual things to be aware of while along the parkway.

  • Don't go reaching into places that you cannot see!! There are rattle snakes along the parkway. Always step on, NOT OVER, downed trees and rocks so that you can see what is on the other side.

  • Keep an eye out for poison oak. There are only two types of people in the world. Those who have had poison oak and those who will get it.

  • Protect yourself from the sun. Sunscreen and a good hat with a brim are always a great idea.

Remember, Practice "Cache In Trash Out"

While out geocaching, bring a bag with you to pick up trash along the way.
