Geocache Description:

This cache takes you to a quaint old church in Hadspen with an interesting history.

In 1868 Archdeacon Thomas Reibey, the owner of Entally House and one time Premier of Tasmania, personally funded the building of this bluestone church, later to be called The Church of the Good Shepherd.

Soon after the building had started, Reibey had a falling out with the bishop. Reibey resigned as Archdeacon and took all his money with him.

Thus, the half-completed church with not much more than the foundations stood for 93 years, until the Anglican Church found the funds to complete it in 1961 - 93 years later!

Reibey died in 1912, and his headstone is among those in the small cemetery. If you have a close look at the church, you can see where the building was stopped by the different coloured stone.

To find the cache, look for the largest tree.
125ml purple container. Contains log book, pencil and small swaps.

Here is a picture of the church as it stood for 93 years. (visit link)
